Dan Ellacott speaks with Robin Grainger from Isaac H. Grainger & Son Ltd, a forward-thinking company with customer values at its heart

Tell us a bit about your background...

In 1864 Grainger’s started off as black- smiths, hand forging tube fittings. Over the last 158 years, we have diversified our products into various other sectors to suit the demands of our customers as their business needs changed. We are now the only British manufacturer of under structure for raised access flooring systems from our site in Cradley Heath. It’s safe to say, we at Grainger’s, are more than just pedestals. We are family.

How many staff do have?

We have of sixty to eighty employees, most of which have been with us for many years who we class as part of our Grainger family.

What sets you guys apart?

Our history is something completely unique to our business. Our long family history, expertise and customer service sets us aside from any other company in our industry. Grainger quality is well- known and always at the forefront of our minds. Due to the nature of our small business, we have developed long- standing relationships with our clients.

What made you diversify into the holiday parks industry?

After years, of doing what we do best, 2020 gave everyone a different outlook. We saw the issues business’ were facing trying to import goods from across the globe. Without a doubt, “holidaying” in the UK became more popular. Many people took their families on a safer trip to the coast in caravans, B&B’s or brought a mobile home. We decided we wanted to support the UK’s travel and leisure trade. Needless to say, after some head scratching and brain storming.

Our research and development team started developing a caravan and luxury lodge axle stand. We quickly realised the industry needed a safer, more practical, stronger solution to breeze blocks. In principle, the stand isn’t too dissimilar to the products we create for flooring solutions. We knew our product would be more robust, better quality and that we would be able to offer a bespoke finish that is much more suitable for the great outdoors. A product that is, fully tested, NCC approved and made in the UK, supporting a historic, small business. Compared to anything else on the market, the Grainger caravan axle stand is a game changer.

What plans do you have for 2023?

In 2023, we will turn 159 years young and what better way to celebrate by continuing our legacy than with our new axle stand. We’re committed to showing our new stand. We want to show the caravanning industry, easy, safe, strong, and durable axle stands. To make installation, easy and adjustable. We believe in our stands so much we want to ensure everyone has an opportunity to use one.
