The Beast is Back!

Wow. What a couple of weeks! Across the UK we saw snow and freezing conditions that caused lots of disruption. Lots of our members were affected by the conditions and our claims team is busy dealing with lots of broken boilers, wet carpets and worse. Unfortunately, the winter weather is set to return this weekend.

Our ‘drain down’ period on the NACO insurance policy is 1st December to 25th March so it’s really important that when the caravan is ‘unoccupied’ people make sure that:

  1. the water has been turned off at the stopcock;
  2. taps and showers are turned on and left open, ensuring also that nothing obstructs any plugholes;
  3. toilets are flushed, ensuring that all water is drained from the cistern.

Our policy defines “unoccupied” as:

“any period exceeding 48 consecutive hours when the caravan is not being used for occupation.”

Draining down isn’t something that has to be professionally undertaken and we always advise that people try and get into a habit of turning their water off whenever they’re not at their caravan or lodge.

If you’re not insured with NACO, check your policy wording or speak to your insurer. If you need any help or advice, just shout.
